In today’s world, a variety of people have their own jobs and work hard, so it is highly debatable what is the main reasons why people in our societies have jobs. In general, the consensus view seems to be that today’s people work in order to develop new skills in their fields or save money for their future. However, in my opinion, I firmly believe that people nowadays have jobs so as to feel more enjoyable about their lives for the following two subsequent reasons.
First and foremost, working is closely related to human’s happiness and personal interaction. To be specific, in our modern societies, people can feel connected with others by working together. On the other hand, if someone does not work, they could feel lonely and isolated, which means that working is necessary to communicate with others. In fact, while excessive works can interfere with your physical and emotional health, normal and regular works can help you to escape from your own boundaries to get happiness. My own experience is a compelling example of this. Last year my legs were broken because of a car accident. Unfortunately, I could not go to my factories. When I was in a hospital, I felt lonely and even distressed by this situation that disallowed me to go to the toilet alone. My colleague came to me and spent time with me, but I could never any consolation because after his visit I had to be alone. Three months later, I could go to my company and I enjoyed commuting even since I was able to meet my coworkers. I shared my story in the hospital and could forget about my loneliness.
In addition, the high position of jobs can give them a lot of satisfaction such as doctors, teachers, and professors. Specifically, professors in universities research profound subjects and teach their students. Actually, this is an honor and most students respect them, not to mention doctors who save many people. Thus, the satisfaction of jobs can make people feel meaningful and enjoyable. For instance, there is a poll conducted by the Johns Hopkins University with their 500 students majoring in social philosophy. The purpose of the survey is to understand the influence on their lives in terms of satisfaction of jobs. The majority of them argued that unemployees in their home cannot feel confident and satisfied because they cannot give others any help or knowledge. An overwhelming 92 percent responded that they want to become a doctor or professor to help in need and share their academic knowledge in the future. This demonstrates that the satisfaction of jobs makes workers happier and more meaningful.
In conclusion, taking personal interaction through communication in their workplace, and the satisfaction of jobs into consideration, I strongly believe that people in modern societies work to feel satisfied and happier about their lives. Never should we forget that this issue may have a huge impact on our lives.
