▶ Your Answer :
Sometimes, teachers speak their opinions on
social and political issues in class. Teachers might explain their perspectives
to refresh students or grab attention, but usually they talk about things like
this because the topics are very stunning, influencing, or depressing.
Therefore, I disagree that students should not be exposed to teachers’ opinions
on social and political issues in class.
The first reason why I disagree with the
statement is students get to know the topic. Students might have heard of the
topic already from others or seen on the news main sight. Unfortunately, that’s
it because students usually don’t look in the topic full length even though
they have numerous opportunities to be informed about important topic through
SNS and internet. Students are so tired of school and homework that they search
on internet for entertainment such as webtoon, youtube, and favorite idols that
relieve their stresses. In consequence, teachers’ speaking would be the main
gateway to be informed of important topics.
The
second and the most important reason is that students can build their own
opinions through the teachers’ ideas. Some people worry that what if students
get infused of teachers’ thoughts and accept those without any filtering. I
certainly think this concern can be thrown away according to my personal
experience. When I was in middle school, my history teacher always added his
own opinions about the historical events. I thought his opinions were all
correct as he was teaching history and accepted his comments. However,
after I went to high school and learned the same event again, I thought in
different way even the high school teacher didn’t add any opinions on the issue.
This experience gave me a lesson that although I accept one person’s opinion,
it varies as I grow and my thinking skills enhance. Also, without the opinions
of my middle school history teacher, I would have no chance to consider the event and to think counter arguments to refute the teacher’s perspective
logically.
As a result, I hope students have teachers
as my middle school history teacher and have precious opportunities to earn
information and to strengthen the ability to think. These are the reasons why I
think it is better for students to be exposed on social and political issues.
