Group projects are generally something stressful for many people. It
is because to accomplish it successfully, they have to cooperate all the time. In
a group project, some people feel uncomfortable when their opinions are
inconsistent with the other parts of the team. Some people are reluctant to
listen to other members’ opinions. However, I believe that people should have
the ability to take feedback toward themselves.
To begin with, it helps a person broaden his perspective. Even if a person has a fine capability to do the assignment, he probably has a limitation
within a certain area, because people have weaknesses as well as strong points.
With the harsh but practical criticism from other members of the team, he could
reconsider his opinion and improve the overall quality of the work. If he denies
or reacts negatively to the proposal, the team’s final result would lack many important
points.
On top of that, it can enhance the sense of companionship. Cooperations
are crucial to succeed in a group project. Since a team project is a work of
diverse people, it is important to ensure that members respect each other. Without
embracing criticism, one would fail to build this healthy environment. For example,
when I was taking part in the group assignment at the university, one of the team
members hardly accepted my opinion. As time passed, the relationship between
me and her became bad. It affected not only our relationship but also the entire
members of the team. They hesitated to reveal their thinking and never made the
feedback. The outcome was terrifying, and my grades were devastated because of
that class.
To sum up, taking the feedback makes two positive factors that lead to the
positive consequences in a group project. One is to improve one’s learning ability, and the other is to build a sense of trust among the team. In this regard, I
firmly assure that people should be able to take criticism from other members
to complete group work successfully. |
