Without doubt, TV advertising can play a significant role for children. Some people think that TV advertising directed toward children under five years old do not be allowed, while others do. Both sides may have their own reasons to support their view. If I had to choose one, I would say that TV advertising for kids under five can be make harmful effects for the kids. There are several reasons and examples as follows.
To begin with, the TV commercial can be make an unwilling situation. To be specific, the kids under five can misunderstand the content of the commercial and it can create a bad accident. For example, I read the news about the accident of one kid. He is four years old and he watched the commercial that the costume of superhero. He misunderstood that he can fly like superhero when he wear the costume. After he got the costume, he jumped out from second floor window wearing the costume, so he got injured severely. Therefore it is required to restrict the commercial for kids under five.
On top of that, the TV commercial can attract to buy useless things for children. To be specific, TV commercial makes the children stimulate the desire for toys and they may think they need the toys even if they do not play with the toys before. For instance, my five years old son liked to watch TV show. Between the shows, there were TV commercial about many kinds of toys. He always wanted to buy the toys he had seen on TV. When I bought the toy, he first played well with the toy. However, after just a few days, he was not interested with the toy anymore. This experience reminds me that TV commercial can be induce the children to have useless toys.
In brief, I firmly believe that the disadvantage of TV advertising directed toward kids under five for the reasons I mentioned above. All in all, the important of harmful effects of TV commercial on the children cannot be underestimated in daily life. |
