Classes may include many discussions or not, and the students’ opinions often divide on this point. Some students may feel it embarrassing to have a conversation with other people, but others could find it of great benefit to discuss about their thoughts in class. As far as I am concerned, I prefer to have classes with frequent discussions between the professor and the students with almost no lectures. First of all, taking classes with frequent discussions between the professor and the students is an excellent way of enhancing insights and outlooks since people can be easily faced with many different ideas. While growing up, many people are immersed by tons of information and knowledge about this world through formalized education. The problem that comes with this is that most of the information and knowledge is conveyed with the source’s viewpoint and they can be easily become shortsighted if they do not have chances to accept diverse opinions and broaden their horizon. Therefore, in order to gain well-balanced views and become more cultured, students shouldn’t just be asked to take many lectures but encouraged to have discussion with others and accept diverse ideas towards various topics.Research conducted by a renowned professor named Sam Adams from Michigan University indicates that people who frequently share their ideas with others in class easily attain the goal of having a full understanding of the concept they are studying in a more effectual way, whereas the same accomplishments is somewhat difficult for people who do not have chance to accept others ideas through discussion. Likewise, his research proves that my argument in the advantage of taking classes with frequent discussions between the professor and the students with almost no lectures is convincing. Moreover, by taking classes with frequent discussions between the professor and the students shows outstanding effectiveness in improving social skills. In the past few decades, people only placed high value on academic performance. But nowadays our modern society admittedly requires people who surpass others both in specialty and sociability. To be more specific, interpersonal relationships and social skills are necessary qualifications for any successful person. Therefore, given the need for collaboration in any places today, taking classes with frequent discussions between the professor and the students with almost no lectures is clearly more vital in building a more promising future because it provides people with the perfect opportunity to have communication with diverse kinds of people. According to a private survey conducted by Seoul National University of Korea, an anonymous surveyed respondent answered that he was strongly helped by the class discussion. He also responded that if it not had been for taking classes with frequent discussions between the professor and the students, he might not have learned how to communicate with others and how to deal with different people. To sum up, I believe my explanations above sufficiently prove the reason why I prefer to take classes with frequent discussions between the professor and the students with almost no lectures. Obviously, the significance of enhancing insights and outlooks and improving social skills cannot be overemphasized enough. |
