There are some people nowadays who think that the ability to work with other people is not that important as it was in the past and the ability to work on one’s own is more important than ever. While this way of thinking has some truth, I personally think that being able to work with other people is more critical than it was before due to recent changes of trends in the job market and rapid advances in our knowledge. To begin with, being able to work with other people is important in the job market. More and more companies nowadays are requiring their employees to work in teams, and expect them to actively interact with one another. There can be many reasons for this, but it is clear that companies benefited much by making their employees work in teams, otherwise the idea of team-based work would have been discarded. This also means that, many companies also require and expect job applicants to possess good communication skills and the ability to work with other workers. So, if someone is not able to show that he or she can work well with others, then chances are that he or she will have difficulty getting a job. Also, we are living in an era where we cannot depend solely on our own knowledge. Recent advances in sciences and technology has made many of our previous knowledges obsolete, and there are many tasks where we have to combine various fields of knowledge to complete. But as life is short and time is limited in our lives, we cannot possibly obtain all knowledges that is by required by our tasks. Therefore we have to ask someone else for advice and help who has knowledge in the fields that we don't have knowledge in to tackle our problems. If we don’t have the ability to work with other people, then in many cases we will be not able to solve your problems, and that is not desirable. To sum up, recent changing trends in job market and rapidly advancing knowledge require us to have the ability to work well with others. In this regard, I think that the ability to work with others is more important than ever. |
