There have been dissenters to the view that Low salary secure job is
better than high salary risky job. However in my opinion it is better to having
stable but low revenue job. There are two reasons why. First, balance of work
and life is important. Second, one’s health should be
prioritized.
To begin with, considering the balance between work and life, low
revenue safe job is better. Frankly this issue is actually like a double edged
sword. I do admit that high salary is significant in our life. However, I
believe the advantages of stable job overshadows the disadvantages concerning
the fact that there should be one’s own time to spend freely and comfortably
doing something that is not about work. And usually secure job is better to
have this time. Our time is limited. We should not spend all time engaging in
building career. We have to take care of our happiness. More specifically,
enjoying hobbies, just resting at home, and having great time with family or
friends can make one happy and satisfied. Then, he or she can do work more
effectively with peaceful and stress-free mind. For example, my dad have very
secure job. He is a public officer. So he does not have to worry about losing
his job easily and injuries during working. At the same time, his revenue is
not so high but he always told me that he is very satisfied with his job and
recommend me to be a public officer. Because he can spend a lot of time with
family and also can enjoy his hobby, playing golf.
Second, one’s health should be a top priority. Without good health,
nothing can be achieved. Like there is saying, “Sound body, sound mind”,
keeping in shape enables one to maximize their work productivity and self-
confident. Just imagine that you wounded while working in risky environment.
Then you cannot do anymore not only work but also your every day life. I would
like to take a story of a lecturer as an example. She was a number one lecturer
in her field and made so much money. Every students in my country who study
sociology took her courses. She always told that she is a short-sleeper, so she
had slept only 3 hours a day since high school. However, one day she announced
that she cannot deliver a lecture anymore because of disease. Eventually she
had to retire. It means that she cannot persist her job and also cannot make
money anymore. If she had taken care of her health, she would not have retired.
To sum up, considering the fact that balance between work and life can
enhance one’s happiness and health should be top priority, there seems to be no
reason for choosing high risk high revenue job. In this regard, I firmly
believe that taking into consideration stability when choosing job is
pivotal.
