▶ Your Answer : Some
people think that government should allow historic buildings to be destroyed
and replaced with modern ones. However, in my opinion, I think that there’s no need
to destroy old buildings and build new modern buildings. There are two reasons.
First, historic buildings have meaning in itself. Second, it is economically
waste to construct modern buildings.
To
begin with, historical buildings is crucial. Once people see the building, they
can think about historical accidents and feel nostalgia for their childhood or
youth. Since history and past things are connected to present and future, it is
essential to memorize repeatedly. Like there is a saying, “Those who
forget about history have no future” in Korea, keeping
thinking about history can imagine better future. For example, there was a poll
conducted by Seoul university with 500 respondents. The purpose of the survey
was to understand the consensus view about history artifacts in today’s society. The majority of respondents replied that through relics,
they can see how ancestors lived and realized how past and present are
connected. This was mainly because relics can show us importance of history.
Secondly,
it is waste of time. Suppose that we destroy all the historic buildings and
replace these buildings into modern ones. As time goes by, ‘modern’ buildings get older and can be damaged. Also, since world is fastly
changed, new architect skills can be developed. Then, these buildings are no
longer modern buildings. Would it be necessary for government to replace these
building into new ones? The answer will be no. It’s
just waste of time. Rather using that replacing cost to other necessary
business is more better way to utilize government’s
financial.
To
sum up, historic buildings can make people to realize the importance of past.
Moreover, government can save their financial. In this regard, I firmly believe
that government should not allow old historic buildings to be destroyed and
replaced with modern ones. |
