▶ Your Answer : Some
people think that government should spend more money on banning local stores to
provide plastic bags to customer or planting tree. However, I disagree with the
idea that government support banning local stores to provide plastic bags or
planting tree for the following two reasons. First, it can reduce traffic.
Second, measures to curb pollution are needed.
First
of all, it is imperative to reduce traffic during rush hour. Roads are so
congested during morning and evening commutes that traffic often comes to a standstill.
This is a major problem because it drastically increases the time it takes to
get to and from work each day. Fees are a possible solution to this problem.
Drivers are more likely to car pool or seek alternative methods of
transportation if they are charged a fee. According to a study done by JYP
institute of technology, a congestion fee significantly cuts down on the number
of trips people make in their own vehicles. In London, the number of individual
trips people made in their own cars with in the center of the city plummeted by
33% after a congestion fee was imposed. As a result, there were far fewer
personal vehicles on the road, and people on the road enjoyed a much smoother
flow of traffic.
Second,
efforts to curb pollution in populous cities are sorely needed. Among the
primary sources of pollution in urban areas are automobiles. The emissions from
the cars’ cylinders go directly into the air and can cause reduced visibility
and hazards to people’s health when breathed. According to the Environmental
Protection Agency, the start-and-stop traffic of peak hours results in idling,
which is when a vehicle’s engine is running while the car is not moving. Idling
adds significantly to emissions of carbon monoxide, a poisonous gas that is
toxic to humans. The agency also has maintained that charging fees to drivers
can reduce idling. Because fees provide an incentive not to drive, they can
help improve the air quality in our cities.
In conclusion, it is essential to
relieve traffic congestion and ameliorate pollution in busy cities. In this
regard, I disagree with the idea that government should focus on supporting banning
plastic bags or planting trees. |
