The standards of the best movies are various from person to person.
In my opinion, the best films are those that convey some lessons about real
life. The reason why I think like this is those films often provide knowledge
about the real world and disseminate socially desirable values.
To
begin with, good films provide knowledge. Some well-made films are based on
real events and intrigue interests about the subjects which were dealt with in
the movies. For example, I watched the movie, ‘the Land and the Freedom,’ which
was based on the Spanish civil war. I did not know much about the Spanish civil
war but I found that movie very interesting. So I searched about what caused it
and its procedure and what interest groups were involved. In the next semester,
I applied to a Spanish culture lecture in my college and wrote some assay about
the Spanish civil war. Consequently, I got an A on the essay. I could not get
an A if I were not watched the movie, ‘the Land and Freedom’.
On top of that, films convey values in their stories, and they can
contribute to fostering socially desirable images among society members. These
constructed images act as stabilizers in society. For example, especially in
Korea, most movies’ storylines follow the common moral, ‘the good rises, the
evil falls’. These moral themes imply watchers some lessons about what is
socially preferable and make them follow those values. In these shared value
systems, its society becomes more stabilized and work efficiently.
To sum up, the best movies are those that carry some lessons and
from them, we can get knowledge about the real world and anticipate a more
harmonious society. In this regard, I agree with the statement that the best
films convey lessons about the real world. |
