▶ Your Answer : A large number of people might argue that they cannot learn to be a leader because leadership includes many qualities and it is a born-gift. However, contrary to popular belief, I believe that those who attempt to be a leader can accomplish their goal because leadership can be acquired by education and social activities. To begin with, people can learn how to become a leader by education. Some people think that their characteristics are so distant from those of leaders that they should be changed utterly. Therefore, proper education like a leadership program helps them to have leadership by learning what kind of traits that many leaders commonly share and encouraging them to get the traits without need to completely adapt themselves. After they gain leadership and confidence to become a leader, they will be a good leader. For example, there is a leadership program in my university, which conducted a survey with all of the participants of the program as respondents. The purpose of the survey was to understand whether the program was efficient for them to have leadership. The majority of the respondents replied that they were satisfied with the program and they could gain leadership thanks to it. Also, some of them responded that what was most impressive in the program was they realized the fact that there is a little difference between leaders and others with respect to leading their colleagues. On top of that, social activities enable people to get leadership naturally. There are a lot of social activities such as team sports, religious meetings, and group projects. Also, people might face conflicts with team members or unexpected problems in their activities. During the process of addressing those difficulties, they can acquire leadership naturally. For instance, my friend was so timid that he rarely expressed his opinion, but he enjoyed soccer, so he joined a soccer club at his college. One day, there was a conflict between the club members, which resulted from their misunderstanding, but he knew the fact and he was the only person who could mediate them at the time. In the end, they could placate with each other by his effort to solve the problem, which stimulates him to become a leader of the club in a few years. To sum up, leadership can be learned intentionally by education and acquired naturally by social activities. Therefore, if someone who want to be a leader is willingly exposed to circumstances where he can exert leadership, he will achieve to be an influential leader. All things considered, leadership are not always innate; those who aim to be a leader are able to become it. |
