▶ Your Answer :
Some people might say that choosing their own team members is more reasonable than being assigned randomly. However, in my opinion, random selecting way has more advantages. There are two reasons. First, a self choosing method may cause a lot of problems. Second, random choice is more effective.
First of all, if let students choose their group members by themselves, there might be several problems. Think about the bad situation that most students are able to make their teams enjoyable however some student might be left without being chosen form anyone. The student will be very depressed and it can be developed to a severe problem. For example, I will talk about my story. When I was ten years old, actually I did not have friends a lot because I was shy and not confident. In a Literature class I had to do a team presentation. We had a chance to choose members, but nobody wanted to join me. It was really sad experience to me and I cannot forget this until now.
On top of that, when making a group randomly both students and teachers can reduce their time. To be specific, selecting their team members themselves requires considerable time. Time and effectiveness is quite important these days, especially when it comes to students learning performance. For example, there was a study conducted by a group of education majors in Seoul national university, with two classes of elementary school students as respondents. One class divided their team arbitrarily (새로운 문장으로 시작해주세요) on the other hand, the other class made (시제 -> 과거 시제) students compose their own teams. The purpose of the study was to see whether autonomous selection of team affects on their academic performance. After watching their presentations, the researchers concluded that randomly (품사 -> 부사) assigned teams had better presentations. They also found out that it was because they had more time to prepare.
To sum up, making a team for a project by choosing their own members could bring about tremendous problem. Moreover, it is evident that it consumes time a lot. In this regard, I firmly believe that being constructed randomly would be a better way.
