▶ Your Answer :
There might be some people who believe that
students should be exposed teachers’ opinions on social and political issues in
class. I personally disagree with the above idea for two reasons. First, it is
a waste of time. Second, it can lead students to have distorted views.
First of all, students cannot receive
well-balanced education. This is because they could not be offered important
knowledge in class. Teachers should be teaching their subjects when there are
in class, rather than showing their personal views. If a teacher spends the
class time like that, students’ grades will drop because they will loss chances
to learn much more important things. According to research done by NY institute
of education, a researcher said that students got lower grade when teachers
exposed their opinions on social and political issues in class.
On top of that, teachers’ opinions lead
students to have distorted views. Political and social topics are very
controversial and require a lot of studies. However, students are young and
immature so they are easily influenced by their teacher’s personal view. A
teacher’s wrong idea can make students misunderstand or confuse them about
those sensitive issues. Let me bring up my personal story as an example. When I
was in high school, my English teacher told us that sexual minorities have an
adverse effect on society. I believed what the teacher said at that time
because I usually trust my teacher. Since then, I have told my friends that
sexual minorities is wrong. One of my friends argued the problem and end up
breaking with the friend. I lately realized that the friend was sexual
minorities However, I was in university, I took the class about sexual minority.
I found the teacher’s personal view wrong. If my teacher had exposed the
issues, I would have lost my friend.
In conclusion, teacher’s opinions on social
and political issues not only are a waste of time, but also lead students to have
distorted opinions. In this regard, Students should not be exposed to teachers’
opinions on social and political issues in class.
