There might be some people who believe that it should be compulsory for students to attend college and university classes. However, I personally disagree with the above idea for two subsequent reasons. First, they are not anymore middle school or high school students. Second, there are many other things that they can do instead of attending classes.
To begin with, adults have a right to decide what they would do. Generally speaking, when they are middle school or high school students, it is right to follow many rules that other adults suggest. However, if they become adults, they can do what they want and should be responsible for what they decide. Therefore, attending college classes is also a kind of choice for them. Let me bring up my sister’s story as an example. I have an older sister named Suzy. When she was a high school student, she thought that it was a compulsory thing to go to university and listen to classes. However, when she became an adult, she realized that it was not a mandatory rule to follow. Accordingly, after entering university, she declared to parents that she did not go to university anymore. My parents were surprised first, but they had to admit the fact that there were no plausible reasons to stop her. This clearly shows that adults should have a right to decide whether attending classes or not.
On top of that, attending college classes is not the sole thing they can do. In general, entering university and attending classes are just one of the choices among the various other things that they can choose. Specifically speaking, there are very limited experiences and people can only obtain indirect and theoretical knowledge in the university. In other words, if people determine to do something outside the university, they can broaden their perspectives and a way of thinking. For instance, after getting out of university, my sister started to do a part-time job in a cafe. This was due to the fact that she always wanted to open her own cafe when she became a grown-up. While doing the job, she could learn not only how to make coffee but also how to order ingredients and deal with customers. As a result, a few months ago she initiated to prepare to open her own cafe. She added that the part-time experience was so important to do what she wanted, and it was a good choice to quit university.
In a nutshell, adults can decide whether attending university classes or not. Furthermore, other activities can be more helpful for them. In this regard, I strongly think that students should have the option of attending or not attending. |
