As everything in life is like a coin that has two different sides, people must weigh the pros and cons before jumping to conclusions. After all, each and every question or topic requires careful deliberation in that there are always multiple variables to the truth. Even though some may adamantly believe that taking criticism from other members can discourage people from succeeding in a group project, I strongly think that such an opinion lacks coherence to some extent. In my humble opinion, having criticism from friends who participate in the same project enables people to succeed in their project for the following reasons: criticism can provide a better solution and exactly understand themselves.
First of all, getting criticism allows people to solve problems more wisely. It is obvious that having participated in diverse projects in a long time, experts have already experienced many things in life. Their suggestions are more likely to bring about a better result. My experience is a compelling example of this. When I was a group member of the art competition in middle school, I had a huge misunderstanding with one of the members. I felt he blamed my sketch and did not like my style. I decided not to speak to him until he apologized to me first. However, my teacher suggested that I should mend things by taking the initiative to apologize first. I carefully listened to my teacher and took my teacher's advice. It turned out that I had a misunderstanding on my part. Had I not spoken to him, I would have never cleared the issue and finished the project.
Secondly, receiving criticism helps people to understand themselves. It is commonly observed that people believe their decisions are always best and correct. This is because they have to make reasons to proceed with their beliefs. For example, when I was a group studying for SATs in high school, I had a friend who gave me an attitude every time I asked for advice. He would say that he did not know answers to specific questions, and thus he was too busy to help me. At that time, I believed it would be helpful to me that asking for difficult questions from teachers or my peers because this approach was to solve many problems in a short time. One day, he pointed out that I should deeply think about problems and my idea was not conducible to me. At that time, I recognized why my grade was not promoted.
In conclusion, I am of the opinion that the advantages of getting advice from peers far outweigh its disadvantages. This is because having criticism allows people to not only have a better result but also understand their status. |
