▶ Your Answer :
It is difficult to
fathom what others think, but my opinion on this statement is adamant. I believe that young people
today are much more interested in politics than before for the following
reasons.
First of all, young people today
are more interested in politics because they are more informed through mass media. Unlike
the past, there is various information
available today. Not only radio or televisions but also mobile phones and tons
of applications provide an enormous amount of information
on politics. My personal experience can explain this well. For example, I usually
watch online newspapers using my mobile phone on my way to work and way home. Although
I’m not a huge fan of politics, I can see there are tons of news headlines related
to politics. Even when I go through Twitter, I
can easily watch today’s adage from random politicians retweeted
by my friends. In Instagrams, I often see some cartoons
that reflected worldwide political relations. As young people are immersed with
internet in their everyday lives, they cannot help but exposed to politics-related
information. The more people are exposed, the more they are interested in it.
In addition, young people today have
to be well-informed about politics since their knowledge of politics is directly
helpful when they are getting a job. Today, people face fierce competition in job
markets without many jobs available. More people are training themselves to be highly
competitive candidates in the job market. Politics
is definitely a field that company emphasizes and people can appeal themselves by
having a great interest
in this field. A recent research conducted by a renowned professor named Mary
Pitts at Cornell University can
explain this well. She asked the CEOs from 300 top companies in the United States
and the question was ‘What is the most important thing you value when hiring?’.
The most answered was cooperative ability and the second most was common sense.
In specific, 96 % of 300 CEOs said that they would ask political issues in
order to evaluate their common sense during the job interview. On top of that, the third answer was actually wisdom, concerning
national and/or worldwide political circumstances in particular. Professor
Pitts explained that this is because political circumstances affect economic
conditions and some policies that regulate companies. Bosses are thinking that competent
workers should notice what is going on within and out of country. This research
explains that young people who want to be hired would have their focus on political
relationships in and out of the country.
In summary, I believe that the
aforementioned explanations sufficiently explained the plausible reasons why young
people today are more interested in politics than in the past.
