There
might be some people who believe that art and music classes are not required
for children at school. However, I personally disagree with the above idea for
the two subsequent reasons. First, these classes can help children get rid of
their stress and give an opportunity to build a social network.
To begin
with, I believe that art and music classes are beneficial for children to
relieve stress. Generally, they spend most of their time on studying academic
subjects that require the memorization of facts and figures. What's more, they
put too much pressure on themselves since they are forced to compete with
others to get good grades. However, by taking art and music classes, they can
alleviate their stress. According
to the study conducted by the Department of Education at Seoul University,
after taking art and music classes, the
stress level of children has been getting lower than when they do not. The majority
of respondents reply that these classes are a great comfort to them because
they are not required to memorize complicated things.
On top of
that, children will be able to build a social network because they can have
more interaction with their classmates during art and music classes. To be
specific, in the class, they can form a group and play musical instruments or
sing together. Let me bring up my personal story as an example. When I was in
high school, I was not an extroverted person, so making friends in a new class
was hard for me. In the beginning of the semester, a music teacher gave a task. To complete the
task, we needed to form a group and play different musical instruments. Due to
the task, for a month, I and my classmates got together to practice every weekday. It was a good
chance for me to become intimidate with them.
To sum
up, art and music classes are beneficial for children. This is due to the fact
that they can relieve stress from intensive academic subjects and, also, they
can form a social network through the classes. In this regard, I maintain that
students should have art and music classes mandatorily along with other
subjects. |
