A good deal of people tend to judge others by their first impression and no doubt that having a good first impression is helpful. However, “Do not judge books by its cover” is certainly true for me when I consider people in my life. In my opinion, first impressions do not tell a lot about people because first impression often misjudged. Also, first impression is changing over time.
First and foremost, first impression often mislead. First impression does not reflex inner quality, which is more important. In fact, many young people are spending lots of time and money to create a better first impression. It comes as no surprise that a number of people have plastic surgeries to get a good job and find a better spouse. However, people should neither judge others nor be judged by others. For instance, people are sometimes swindled by a fraud who has a good conversation skill and dressed very nicely. Unfortunately, their wrong judgement by first impression might cause them to have big troubles such as a victim of fraudulent marriage and money fraud. In this sense, first impression is not reliable and sometimes even dangerous.
Secondly, first impression is changing over time. It seems obvious that our society encourages people to measure themselves by first impression instead of being honest. However, it takes a long time to know people well and last long impression is more important. To take an example, Walt Disney, who is the best animation director, was reputed as not creative animatitor and rejected from many movie companies. But Regardless of many bad reputation and rejection, he kept doing what he believed to be right and made it in the end. In this sense, all people need to do is to have self confidence and they will tell them. I firmly believe people need to be themselves, rather than trying to create a good first impression by becoming someone you are not. To conclude, I strongly believe that first impression do not tell a lot about people. This is because first impression is not trustworthy and changes over time. Therefore, people do not have to worry about being liked. They have to be themselves.
