Some people take it for
granted that the government should invest more in leisure places for the public
than in art. There are obviously many opinions regarding this
topic, but it is evident that art should get more financial support from the government. The compelling concepts of horizons and employment will clearly support my
argument.
First and foremost, the government investment in art enables the citizens
to broaden their perspectives. This is mainly because, thanks to the government
support, if all walks of life easily and cheaply appreciate various artworks,
they can be exposed to the different ideas and thoughts that they have never
known before. Consequently, they will experience intellectual growth and
respect the diversity, which is required in an era of globalization. As a case
in point, when I was in high school, I went to an exhibition for France held by
the Seoul city government. As a result, I understood and learned about a wide
variety of cultural things such as French clothing, music, and food. The reason
was that I listened to informative explanation from a museum docent,
appreciated the paintings and sculptures showing French people’s lives. Had I
not participated in the exhibition, I would have had lack of understanding of
the country.
In addition, the government support for art is helpful for young people's
future career. This is due to the fact that, unlike enjoying leisure
facilities, when the people have more chances to appreciate a number of
artworks reflecting various cultures, they can develop the ability to
understand another culture thanks to the government funding. As modern society
has become increasingly competitive and specialized, today's global companies
are looking for employees having such qualities. Therefore, these are important
to fight for jobs in highly competitive labor markets. For instance, my father,
thee CEO of a company in Korea, often tells me that a job interview is the most
significant component in employing people. He and other interviewers at the
interview mainly look at the applicants' passion and cultural competence. This
means that investing in arts by the government is a sure way for people,
especially students, to prepare for the future.
In conclusion, some might argue that the government should spend more
money on public leisure facilities than on art. However, based on the ideas
related to outlook and a job, we can conclude that the government budgets
should be spent on art instead of public leisure facilities.
