▶ Your Answer : It is difficult
to fathom what others think, but my opinion in regard to the given topic is
adamant. I believe that it is important for governments to spend money on
preserving historic buildings rather than on building new housings for the
following reasons.
First of all,
traditional buildings have higher value than new housings. While new housings
can be built anywhere in the world, traditional buildings only exist in certain
areas. Furthermore, historic buildings hold archeological values essential for
historical researches, making it more valuable. A recent decision of the Korean
government can be illustrated to prove this point. A construction company
attempted to build an apartment near the historical palace. The government,
however, rejected their plan, since the palace had a significant value on
history and archeology. They also claimed that the palace is a precious
national monument and it should be securely preserved. Consequently, the
government decided to preserve the historic building instead of building new
housing. As seen in their decision, it is evident that the government should
invest on preserving historic building rather than building new houses.
In addition,
traditional building can display their culture to the citizens. Traditional
buildings contain cultures of the country. To be specific, they reflect various
aspects of the culture, such as architecture, environment and society. Therefore,
by preserving traditional buildings, people can take a deep look into the culture
and experience lives of their ancestors. My personal experience can be a perfect
example of what I contend. In the city where I live, there are numerous historic
and traditional buildings. Once in a month, I visit those places to take a
picnic with my friends. Every time I visit there, I can feel the amazing
culture of Korea. Especially in Gyeongbok-goong, which is the palace where the
king lived, I can take a peek of the lifestyle of the king in the old era.
Therefore, it is better for governments to spend money on preserving
traditional buildings so that citizens can feel the impressive culture.
As explicitly
and logically elaborated above, I disagree with the statement that it is
important for governments to spend money on building new housings than
preserving historic or traditional buildings, firmly believing that preserving
historic buildings is more beneficial in many ways. |
