Some people think that children should not watch television because they are easy to addictive to TV and it disturbs their studying. However, in my opinion, parents should allow their children to watch television for the following several reasons. First, there are many educative programs in television. Second, young people can relieve their stress during watching TV. To begin with, watching television plays a significant role in effective studying for young people. This is attributed to the fact that TV provides a variety of educational programs for young people. Also, video materials are more effective way for children to understand and accept new information than others, such as books and photos. As a rule of thumb, for example, when I was first grade in elementary school, I seldom wrote something except my name. This was because I did not understand the concept and structure of the language, Korean. My mother put various image and photo materials all around the house to encourage me to learn language, yet I was not interested in. And then she showed me a TV program that taught about Korean language by singing and dancing characters of big word. I liked the program and I watched it two hours a day on average. In a few months later, I was able to write my mother’s name and father’s name as well as thank you letter for my parents. This demonstrates that watching TV would promote children’s academic knowledge. On top of that, young people can greatly cope with their stress by watching television. It is obvious that there are many enjoyable programs on television, and it allows young children to escape from academic stress easily. Moreover, appropriate dealing with stress lead to increasing efficiency, resulting in increasing the quality of learning. According to a study conducted by the Ministry of Education of Korea in 2012 to determine which is the effective way to relieve stress. There were two groups of students monitored. The first group of students was formed of watching television in their free time and the other group consisted of reading books. The researchers compared and recorded the outcomes that the former group had less level of stress than the latter one. Moreover, the former group of students got much higher score than the second one. This was because, students in the former group were able to forget about their academic stress during watching TV and thus they enabled to totally refresh, leading to concentrate on studying much harder. This study shows that watching TV is valuable way for reducing stress for students. To sum up, students can learn something easily from video materials also managing stress level properly by using television is crucial for academic performance. In this regard, I firmly believe that parents should not discourage their children to watch television for better academic score. |
