▶ Your Answer :
In the reading passage, there is ample support for the author’s claim that there are a lot of advantages of using coal, and thus it will be used constantly. However, the professor from the lecture gives several reasons as a rebuttal to the author’s point. First, the professor from the lecture contends that it is complicated to mine coal. Almost coal, which located close to the earth’s surface, are exhausted now, therefore people should mine the other coal in deep underground. Also, in order to mine the coal, it is necessary to utilize high technical skills. This casts doubt on the reading passage that coal is easy to mine since it is commonly located close to the surface of the ground, leading to spending less time and effort. Next, the professor from the lecture insists that it is costly to ship coal. This is because a number of coals are heavy and bulky. If coals are moved to power plant, it would be required to use a lot of vehicles, such as trucks and train, which means moving coal is much more expensive than other types of fuels. This counters the reading passage’s assertion that to transport coals is cheap because of its physical features, solid form. Finally, the professor from the lecture argues that it is not true that the coal industry creates more jobs for employees. Recently, the coal industry reduced the revenue for labors, thus they hired fewer labors to work for the industry. Finally, in the future, the number of labors in the coal industry will decline. This refutes the reading passage’s suggestion that the coal industry is a major employer that creates more jobs for workers. In conclusion, for these reasons as I have mentioned above, the professor from the lecture do not agree with the author’s claim that accessible form of fossil fuel, coal, will continue to be used in the future because of its merits.
