It
is generally asssumed that there are certain ways to improve public welfare and
city’s environment by refining infrastructures. Among diverse methods, I truly
believe that establishing libraries is a crucial component for change. I feel
this way for two reasons, which I will explore in the following essay.
First, to build more libraries could contribute to enhance quality of
public education. Normally, from young age to adult, library is used by different
age groups. For example, parents bring their children who are under 7 years old
to the place to teach them with basic words, like Hangul, by reading books. Or,
for adults who had retired long ago, libraries are a way to spend time for them
and also to cultivate knowledges and cultures. Moreover, nowadays, libraries
often operate many educational programs sych as “debate class” or “writing
class” for audlts and young. when I was sophomore, I also had registered a
debate class which read classic novels and analyze the works’ meaning by
sharing opinions. It helped me to think and comprehend books dialectically.
Second, as a ‘pulic space’, libraries would play an important role to
improve city’s circumstances. Libraries are a lieu that people can meet and
exchange their opinions without condsidering their hierarchy. A research
counducted in England nearly 10 years ago, showed it. According to the
reasearch, a library once had opened to any students changed its policy to
permit approach only to whom attending private schools. After 5-8 years, the
hierarchical conflicts in the region have soared. This indicates that libraries
for public usage give chances to residents to mingle one another regardless of
their economical and cultural background. By raising numbers of those facilities,
the city and whole members could be benefited. Because, in that way they will
have more abudent backgounds, thoughts and social contents. And this would
serve to development of city in long term.
For conclusion, I strongly argue that extra libraries could be helpful
to city’s environmental enhancement. People in the city could learn and debate
each other no matter what their ages and financial standings are. Public
education and space which are both profoundly connected to citizens’ daily life
are obtained by enlarging libraries in the city.
