The importance of education has become much significant. Many parents are thinking
of how to make their children get good grades on every subject. Due to this tendency, the importance of art and
music classes is ignored. Some people strongly argue that art and music classes
should be abolished in the curriculum of schools because they are useless for
students to attend universities. From my perspective, however, there are a lot
of advantages to taking art and music classes.
To begin with, art and music classes will be conducive for students to
improve their creativeness. Nowadays, the ability to think in different
perspectives is one of the required values to be successful. In fact, art and
music classes will broaden the students’ view to see the world, and this will
lead them to become imaginative people. Let me bring up my experience as an
example. When I was a high school student, I was not allowed to take art and
music classes because the principal of my school considered those as
impractical. Actually, universities did not evaluate the grades on art and
music classes so that many high schools were inclined not to take those classes
as mandatory ones. Later, I had the opportunity
to attend an art contest at my university. It
was difficult for me to think of an imaginative
idea. At that time, one of my friends who took an art class when he was a high
school student made me surprised because his idea was so creative. Eventually,
he won the contest. If I took an art class in high school, I would do much
better at the contest.
On top of that, students are able to find their interests while taking
art and music classes. Many students did not know their talents in art and music because they are hectic to study subjects
such as math and science. However, art and music classes will provide them to
discover their inborn artistic ability, and this will help them be interested
in art and music. As a result, they can have hobbies related to art and music.
For instance, when I was a middle school
student, my music teacher taught me how to play the piano. Before, I did not
know how to play the piano and even read the note. Thanks to the teacher, I
found an interest in playing the piano. Now, playing the piano become one of my
hobbies, and I still used to play it when I feel pressured or want to relax.
To sum up, my contention is that art and music classes should be
compulsory for students. This is because these classes are favorable for students
to be creative, and become opportunities for students to find their interests. |
