▶ Your Answer : There are many factors that encourage students to study hard. Many teachers and parents agonize that how to spur students to work harder. In my opinion, students are highly affected by their friends in their accomplishments. In this regard, I think that grades encourage students to work harder at school.
First of all, as grades make hierarchies in the peer groups, students are triggered to study work hard at school. The peer pressure in schools is the main factor that makes students behavior. Students are evaluated by their academic achievements and it makes the difference between students. Some students become a top student. On the other hand, some students become a poor student. On account of the disgrace of becoming poor students, students who get a low-grade study harder to get a high grade. This difference between students creates a hierarchical structure in student groups and triggers competition to get a high grade. For example, when I attended middle school, I always get a low grade in chemistry. My friend Tom, however, always takes high grades in chemistry. This makes me a little feel embarrass. Thus, I started to study hard to take a high grade. As a result, I finally surpass my friend Tom and get a high grade in chemistry. This shows that grades have a positive effect on students' academic achievements.
Second, grades allow teachers to detect better the difference between academic achievements students to students. Students have different abilities for different subjects. This makes the disparity of the academic achievements of students. Grades allow teachers to better understand this difference. Teachers can accurately find the lack of ability of each student and teach them properly. For example, when I was a teacher of elementary school, many students had a hard time learning math. Many students were faced with different problems in different themes. Some students could not understand the function of adding, other students were not able to understand division. Thanks to the advice of the upper-class teacher, I tested the students and grades them. As a result, I could finely understand the lack of abilities of each student and provide better solutions for them. In conclusion, grades help teachers and students reinforce their capacity in terms of academic matter. In this regard, I firmly believe that grades are a powerful factor encouraging students to work hard at school.
