The Industrial Revolution has brought huge changes in our societies in a good way. However, human activities including the revolution have also negative aspects, especially to the earth’s environment. Personally, I believe that the environmental situations on the earth get more and more difficult to live due to what has been done by people. I feel this way for two reasons, which I will discuss in the following essay.
First of all, constructing buildings requires cutting trees, leading to deforestation. In order to support the growing population in the world, we need many houses and buildings. In making these structures, we cannot avoid destroying forests because we already used most of the available areas outside forest regions. For example, a construction company was trying to build apartments in my town. Since job-seeking people had rushed to the town, following the newly large technology firm, there was a need for housing areas.; however, it did not have a suitable place to build except for the park in the city. Thus, the company decided to destroy the park and built new apartments. We already know that the destruction of green areas causes a high level of carbon dioxide, depleting the ozone layer and increasing the earth’s temperature which will be bad for us to live.
Secondly, the development of transportation systems provokes serious problems with air pollution. These days, we drive a car, take a bus or train almost every day. It is a well-known fact that these transportations emit a great deal of carbon dioxide and gas which includes harmful dust particles. We have been suffering from these noxious materials. My personal experience is a compelling example of this. I was born with numerous problems with my respiratory organ, so I am always troubled with associated diseases. When I go outside with extreme air pollution level, I have a runny nose and a sore throat with a cough, and even feel hard to breathe. I might not have struggled with these illnesses if air pollution was not severe.
In conclusion, I am of the opinion that the earth prior to human activity was much better to live than now. This is because we ruin forests to build houses, causing the environment rapidly to be a harsh condition. Also, air pollution has become a serious issue attributable to improved transportation technologies. |
