▶ Your Answer :
Undoubtedly, learning plays an important role in students' daily lives. Some people think that giving students with grades improves learning motivation, while others do not. Both sides may have their own reasons to support their views. If I were asked to choose one, I would say that grading to students can be a good method to promote their learning. There are several reasons as follows.
To begin with, grading students in a class can give them more energy to put into studying. Grading is a kind of a reward for students. The reward that is provided in a class can work as a motivation to them. Therefore, when they are fully rewarded according to their efforts, they are likely to keep studying harder. For example, when I was in a university, there were two types of classes: P/F and normal. P/F classes are comparatively easier to attend than normal ones because P/F classes pass almost all students. On the other hand, since normal classes give them a various range of scores from F to A, students studied harder to get a higher grade.
In addition, grading can produce a better result in terms of a group. Grading promotes students to compete with each other in a class. As a result, students in a class can get the overall high acquisition of information because competition pushes each student to study harder. For instance, when I was in a high school, my class consisted of lots of self-motivated friends. This environment makes a classroom more competitive to get a higher school grade. Of course, since my school grades students based on relative scoring, not all students can get a higher grade. However, almost all students in my class can get a high grade in the SAT because of previous studying that is promoted through competition.
All things considered, I strongly believe that the advantages of grading in learning far outweigh those of not for the reasons I have mentioned above. All in all, the importance of motivation in learning cannot be overestimated in studying. |
