▶ Your Answer :According to the reading, there are three rational causes why red rain happened in Kerala of the India. However, the professor thinks the factors are absurd for several reasons.
First, the professor argues that the blood of bats leads to the red rain is far-fetched. In fact, there must be enormous amount of blood to make the red rain. To be specific, over 5 million of bats should be destroyed at the exact same time for the red rain and also there were no residues like wings or bones. This contradicts to the reading passage's claim that the blood of bats caused the red rain in Kerala.
Next, he contends that the argument of volcanic eruption in the Philippines has not been proven. The problem is that the red rain happened only in Kerala not in the Philippines. What's more, the countries located between the India and the Philippines didn't undergo red rain as well. This casts doubt on the reading passage's claim that the volcanic eruption of the Philippines made low PH of the atmosphere which caused rain to appear red.
Finally, the professor disagrees with the statement that the red rain was caused by the chemical pollution from local factories. Actually, there are few factories in Kerala but the red rain require a large amount of chemical materials. In addition, if the chemical pollution is the problem, the red rain should be concentrated near the factories which don't have filters in chimneys, but in fact, that was not what happened actually.
