▶ Your Answer : The reading passage argues that the function
of Lambeosaurus’s axe-shaped crest can be explained by three compelling evidence.
On the other hand, the lecturer brings up several points to oppose the ideas presented
in the reading.
First of all, the speaker points out that it
is doubtful that their crest might be used to attract the mates. This is
supported by the fact that reptiles appeal to their potential mate by behavior,
not their appearance. For instance, a crocodiles attract their mate by lifting
their head on the water and making particular sound. This strongly contradicts
the author’s claim that the dinosaur used the crest to be noticed by mate.
Second, the professor
claims that the function of the crest was not for combat. The reason is that
actually, the crest positioned at the backward of dinosaur’s head, so it might
not match to combat. Moreover, despite a triceratopes had solid crest,
Lambeosaurus’s hollow crest was too fragile to fight. This casts doubt on the
author’s assertion that their crests could help them to fight since it protected
their head.
Finally, the lecturer asserts that their
head crest didn’t supply air when they ate aquatic plants. This is because Lambeosaurus
was massive dinosaur so they needed a lot of oxygen, but their crest was too
small to obtain enough air. Their crest was able to help them breath few second
underwater instead of deep breath. This goes against the writer’s view that the
animal could breath long period time because the crest stored enough air. |
