Some people might agree with the statement
that cars have a bigger impact on our lives than airplanes because cars made it
possible for people to save time to commute in our daily lives. However, I
firmly disagree with the statement in that airplanes made it possible for
people to travel worldwide and buy commodities from all over the world at a
much reasonable price.
First of all, people can travel worldwide
easily with airplanes. It used to take a lot of time to travel the world before
the advent of airplanes, which limited people to travel around. However,
airplanes made it more accessible for people to widen their views because they
can easily travel around. For example, it used to take more than two weeks when
people could travel from Asia to America only with ships. People who had to
work for a long time and only had short holidays due to their low financial
status could not go abroad. However, it only takes about 10 hours from Asia to
America by airplane. People can go to other countries even during their short
holidays. Airplanes contributed to making people have a trip worldwide.
Moreover, airplanes made international trade
become more common that people can buy commodities at a much cheaper price. Prior
to this, people mostly bought things which were made in their own countries.
Due to the limited resource and competitors, the price was set at a high price.
However, airplanes can ship things faster and safer which lowered the limit of
the range of commodities for international trade. For instance, people in Korea
used to eat beef only produced in Korea. Beef was so expensive that people
could eat it only on special occasions. However, airplanes started to ship beef
from Australia and America. Beef was produced at a rather cheaper price in those
countries and the price competition lowered the overall price of beef. Thanks
to the international trade caused by airplanes, we can now eat beef commonly at a cheaper price.
To sum up, airplanes have positive impacts on
tourism and international trade. In this regard, I strongly disagree with the
statement that cars have a greater effect on our society than airplanes. |
