Some people think that grading students discourages students. However, in my opinion, it actually promotes students' learning since they can exactly recognize their own level that helps them to work hard, and the students would be encouraged by their instructor or parents because of grades.
First, grades make it possible for students to estimate their abilities objectively. In other words, if there is no apparent indication for the subjects, they are not likely to study more since they even do not know that they are weak in that subject. For example, I was not enough in history class when I was in middle school. Before I took an exam, I did not consider it a difficult subject and just tried to study as much as other subjects. When I got my history score, I was shocked and started to spend more time on it. Eventually, I successfully achieved the presentation and the next exam in history class.
Second, supervisors of the students would give positive feedback which can motivate them not to lose interest in it. By seeing grades, it is obvious whether students are studying well or not. For instance, in high school, I loved to study math, and I was going to major in math also. When I need to take an exam for it, I was really excited because my knowledge of math would be measured, and my parents and teachers will pay me a compliment. The feedback reminds me that I am learning math effectively, and I can achieve better if I concentrate more. This made me persist in studying math in the long run.
To conclude, grades give students opportunities to examine themselves and allow them to receive beneficial comments from their instructor which encourage them. In this regard, I assert that grading students would enhance their learning. |
