English Speaking Only Study ! ^^
We do this study
on every Thursday at 6 45 pm and on every Saturday at 6pm, and the study lasts
no longer than 3 hours.
This study is organized and done in Sinchon(신촌)area.
What we do in the study is reading the latest articles
followed by discussion and debate regarding the topics.
The articles are chosen and extracted from Bloomberg,
BBC, The
Wall Street Journal, Economist, Korea Herald, Joongang Daily,
and so forth.
The topics are also very diverse such as Politics,
Economics, Health, Technology, Life Style, Business Tips.
In addition, we have a short individual presentation time
so that you can have opportunities to practice making a speech in front of a
few audience as well as listen to other people’s presentation content and
skills.
In this study, there is a very strict rule that we
talk in English all the time even out of the cafe when we hang out together
for drinking or eating. I and we value this culture much so new comers will be
required to follow this rule as well.
Should it be specified of the least requirements of
joining this study, those could be certain scores in English tests like TOEIC,
TOEFL, IETLS or your foreign experience. 920 in TOEIC, 105 in TOEFL, 7 in IELTS
may suffice the basic standard. I am not trying to be condescending but
articles are not easy to understand. Sub-leaders and I have a perfect score in
TOEIC, but we still find it difficult to grasp the content at times.
I could say that I am nearly bilingual (but not exactly)
and there are several highly qualified sub-leaders who help to facilitate and
smooth this study out.
Native speakers or foreigners can also join since this
study is not only to keep up our fluency but also to have profound knowledge
and discussion. But I am not asking a perfect English fluency or proficiency
from all the applicants as I myself don’t have it either.
And there are already a lot of very fluent and
knowledgeable members (workers in foreign companies, students from abroad, foreigners).
Thus you will be able to socialize with a lot of sociable and great people. But
we divide into small number of groups during our session, so you don’t worry
about your chance to speak out – there are plenty.
I was president in Yonsei university before my graduation
and managed many study groups so far. I’d appreciate your time being with us
and give my words that the study will be managed very efficiently and joyfully.
Of course this study is not for profit and each will pay
only 5,000 won for using the rooms and place.
As for the gender ratio, given that sub-leaders are male
and topics tend to be heavy, there are a bit more guys than girls.
Rather than having inquiries, I just recommend you to
come and try the study. You don’t need to prepare anything when you come to the
study, just yourself. And you can choose the day meaning it is not mandatory to
join both days.
Pls contact me with your introduction (in English) – 1. Name 2. English proficiency (Foreign experience,
English test score, etc.), 3. Reasons of applying for this study.
And I will let you know the location in reply J
010-7712-7544 Jin (study leader / Kakao msg preferred)
(I beg your understanding about the fact that I don’t
reply if you send a msg in Korean, or if you don’t introduce yourself with details. I’d like to take your
application only, not many questions – Sorry it’s overwhelming to reply to all
the inquires ㅠㅠ)
