Some people believe that working on the
side is beneficial. There are obviously many opinions regarding this topic, but
it is clear that focusing on the study has more profits. The concepts of job opportunity
and duty clearly illustrate this theme.
First of all, concentrating on their studies
is helpful for one’s career. This is mainly because, unlike taking a second
work, if they spend more time studying, they are more likely to be honor students
and to have a high background in their field. As modern society is becoming
increasingly specialized, today’s companies are looking for the employees having
such quality. Therefore, this is important to fight for jobs in highly
competitive labor markets. For example, my father, the CEO of a company in
Korea, often tells me that a job interview typically precedes the hiring decision.
He and other interviewers at the interview mainly look at the applicants’
passion and understanding in the fields. Thus, having time to focus on their
majors is a sure way for people, especially college students, to prepare for
the future.
In addition, the primary duty of students
is to study no matter how they can earn money through part-time jobs. When it comes to comedians,
their first duty is not to help poor people but to entertain audience. In the
case of the CEOs of companies, their top responsibility is to lead their
business well ahead of taking care of their employees’ personal matters. If
they pay more attention to their secondary obligation, people will not think that they
are doing their job successfully. In the same way, what students should think
about first is to accumulate knowledge of their topics as best as they can. For
example, I saw a documentary several weeks ago. It investigated the later lives
of people who benefited from having a high GPA when college students and those of
people who did not. It concluded that the people having had high achievements
lead successful and satisfying lives. This documentary demonstrates how important
it is to spend time only on studying while going to college.
Taking all of these things into account, we
should agree with the idea due to the significance of being competitive and obligation.
There is no doubt in my mind that focusing on studying without part time works
will benefit people’s future. The examples of job opportunities and obligations explicitly support the argument. |
