Some people believe that having a wide range of knowledge is
more important than focusing on a specific subject. There are obviously many
opinions regarding this topic, but it is clear that concentrating on a subject has
more beneficial. The concepts of job skill and stress clearly illustrate this
theme.
First of all, having specializing
knowledge is helpful for one’s career. This is mainly because, unlike understanding
various subjects, if we study a specific major, we can be a specialist. As
modern society has become increasingly specialized, today’s companies are
looking for employees having such quality. Therefore, this is important to
fight for jobs in highly competitive labor markets. For instance, my father,
the CEO of a company in Korea often tells me that a job interview typically
precedes the hiring decision. He and other interviewers at the interview look
at the applicants’ passion and their major backgrounds. This means that having
time to focus on a certain major is a sure way for people to prepare for the
future.
Secondly, obtaining a broad understanding of various studies enable
people to get stressful and to waste time. This is because, if high politicians
or CEOs of companies regard it essential but not optional, many educational
policies or the standard of applicants would be followed in their preferences.
Consequently, many applicants or students who want to go to good companies or universities
are more likely to spend more time to memorize a wide range of backgrounds. For
example, the government of Korea announced that the history subject of Korea is
assigned as an essential subject when people apply to a worker for the government or
enter national universities a few years ago. Since the announcement was
trumpet, students or applicants had to study their studies plus the history subject.
However, the admitted students or workers for the government passing the exam said
that it was just one more subject to pass the exam. If high position people did not
consider it, these people would not have wasted time on more subjects and be
stressed.
In summary, some people claim that wide pearls of wisdom can be more beneficial
for people. Nevertheless, it seems to me that studying a specific major is more
profitable. The examples of job opportunities and stress support the argument. |
