There has been a heated debate over the
issue of whether people in the past are friendlier than they are today and some
people might agree with the statement. However, I strongly believe that today's
people are friendlier than they were in the past because these days people are
well educated and people think good social networks are beneficial in achieving
success.
First of all, nowadays people are friendlier
than they were in the past because they learn to be kind to others. In
present-society, most of countries provide public education to almost all of
their citizens whereas people in the past had difficulty in getting easy
access to a formal education. When students learn that they should be polite to
other people, they are likely to be friendlier then those who does not. Given
this, it is not ar overstatement to argue that today's people are friendlier
than they were in the past. Specifically, the Korean daily podcast indicated
that nearly eighty-five percent surveyed respondents felt that people in the
past were not kind and polite. According to them, many of people in the 1960s had
difficulty in getting a public education due to poverty. All thing consider, education
is really important for people to be friend and thus, people in the past were
less friendlier than they are today.
Additionally, people make an effort to be
friendlier in order to achieve success in the future. As our society become
more competitive, it is significantly difficult for young people to achieve
success in their lives without any help from other people. As a consequence,
social relationships with other people are also considered to be one of the
important factors to succeed and young people try to be polite and friendlier.
For this reason, I think that today's people are friendlier than they were in
the past. Referring to the recent studies (2014) conducted by Seoul National
University, the experts argued that young people who were friendlier and had
broader social networks had more chances to get job opportunities as well as
got a job faster than those who had not. Many of young Koreans including me
know the research result and try to be friendly to others.
All in all, education and social networks
influence people's friendliness and today's people have more opportunities to get
education as well as need broad social networks. Therefore, I firmly believe
that people in the past were less friendlier than they are these days. |
