The speaker asserts that a number of hypotheses
about the cause of TLPs are not plausible. Therefore, the lecturer refutes three
theories in reading passage with the subsequent reasons.
First of all, the lecturer claims that clouds
of lunar gas would not be able to lead to TLPs. Because if it is the
cause of TLPs, the gas should be discovered before the phenomena would be seen.
However, most of scientists have observed the lunar crater and gas at the same
time. Moreover, if the phenomena could be observed, there should be enough gas
to see from the Earth. In fact, It has turned out there are only small amount of gas, proving that the reading passage's suggestion is groundless.
These show that the hypothesis on the TLPs’ cause is based on gas is farfetched.
Second, the speaker says that TLPs are impossible
for the dust to cause. There should be big storm of dust in order to bring
about the phenomena. However, it is clear that there has not been such a large
storm of dust nearby the Moon. Hence, the speaker rebuffs the idea that dust
can change the color and brightness of small areas of the Moon.
Lastly, the speaker argues that there is no
correlation between solar flares and TLPs and says that the hypothesis that
solar flares could be one of the most possible causes for the phenomena is not sufficient to be supported. According to the statistics, the insufficient amount of evidences exist to prove the correlation
between solar flares, showing that the hypothesis does not have enough proof about its
claim.
