▶ Your Answer : There might be some people who believe that universities may not be able to improve the quality of education by paying higher salaries to professors. However, I personally disagree with the above idea for two subsequent reasons. First, professors can soley focous on the quality of education issue. Second, universities can hire high qualified people as professors. First, professors can only concentrate on the quality of education. To be sepecific, money issues, such as paying back the debt of house installment, would disturb professors' effort to improve their instructions toward students, which means that students can not be educated by a well balanced-education. For example, according to research done by JYP research institution, 80% of repondents who are working as a professor said that they are doing other works for money. They are not enough paid to pay back the debts. This clearly shows that they are not able to spend time improving the quality of education. Second, universities might have qualified professors. Paying higher salaries is an inducement for people who have a great qulification as a professor. When they teach and study, students are more likely to gain a well-balanced education. Let me bring up my personal story as an example. I have a close friend working as an accounting professor at Korea University. He worked as an accountant in PWC, an accounting company. However, he had found that accountant won't be able to make a lot of money for his big debts of housing, so he applied to Korea University as an accounting professor because the university paid higher salary than the accounting company did. If the university had not paid higher salary, he wouldn't apply for the job. In conclusion, paying higher salaries not only help professors dedicate to improve the quality of education, but also make universities have qualified professors. For these reasons, I strongly believe that universities should pay higher salaries to professors. |
