The reading passage contends that the
reasons for the whale strandings can be fully explained by three theories. On
the other hand, the lecturer brings up several points that contradict this
argument.
First, the reading passage contends that
wind patterns cause the whale strandings. However, the lecturer rebuts the
reading passage's assertion by saying that it cannot explain the whale strandings that happen in places which have diverse wind patterns. For instance, the east coast of Unite State has wind
patterns from the west which create the currents that make the whales flow away
from land.
Second, the reading passage states that
illness is the cause of whale strandings. However, the lecturer thinks that it
is not enough to prove it. This is because it cannot account for the fact that
healthy whales are stranded. To be specific, most whales are so healthy that
they can back to the sea their own ability.
Third, the reading passage explains that
geologic features with gentle slope disturb the sonar system of whales and this
is the reasons for the whale strandings.
However, the lecturer is in the opposition to the idea. The lecturer claims
that only a small number of whales is stranded even though all whales have the
same sonar system. Furthermore, whales which live in shallow coast are rarely
stranded. |
