Some
people think that parents don't have to force their children to follow strict
rules for their success in life. However, in my opinion, I firmly believe that
parents should set rigid rules if they wish to see their children succeed in
life. This is because strict rules help children to have helpful habits and
lessen mistakes.
To begin
with, parents make their children have better habits by setting rigid rules for
them. There are variable kinds of good habits which is conducive to succeed in
life, such as being a morning person, reading many books, and the like. If
parents set strict guidelines for routine life of their children, they can
acquire helpful habits. In my case, when I was in middle school, my mother
always emphasized the importance of becoming "an early bird", so she
set a rule that I should wake up at 7'o clock in the morning. At first, I tried
not to follow the rule since I liked to sleep late in the morning. However, my
mother cut off my allowance whenever I skipped the rule. As a result, I tried
to wake up early following mother's rule, and I could become a morning person, which helps me to get good
reputation at work these days.
On top of
that, parents let their children reduce
the risk of mistakes by establishing strict rules for them. Even though there
is a saying that "failure is a mother of success", it can confuse
children and lose their confidence. Therefore, rules established by parents can
be useful maps for their children not to make mistakes so much. According to a
research conducted by the research department of UCLA, there is correlation
between academic achievements and parenting rules. To be specific, students
whose parents set strict rules for their studying had better GPAs, while others
whose parents didn't intervene their studying at all showed lower GPAs.
To sum
up, children can have useful habits and avoid mistakes by rules set by their
parents. In this regard, parents should establish strict rules if they hope to
see their children succeed in life.
