Some people think that the news media provide biased information to the public. In my opinion, however, the news media is a reliable source of unbiased information. The reasons are that people monitor the different media and the media is are largely dependent on their reputation.
First of all, people monitor the different media. The media cannot be dishonest under people’s watch. For example, people operate many media watchdog agencies. The role of a media watchdog agency involves fact-checking of the information and beat reporting to gather information from issues that members of the public might not otherwise approach. The media watch agency must have to prevent the abuse of the news media and warn citizens that they are doing wrong. Due to the presence of this monitoring system, people can take disciplinary actions against the news media that supply biased information to the public. This can be a reason that the media should provide the reliable information.
Second, the media is are largely dependent on reputation. People’s loyalty to the a broadcasting station relies on its honesty to the public. According to a statistic data collected by The Union of Korean National Journalism, An overwhelming 65% had responded that they consider the reputation of the a newspaper as the biggest factor for the regular subscription while the remaining 35% claimed that pointed (that 뒤에는 완성된 절이 나와야죠.) other factors such as article’s contents, advertisements, and price for the subscription. Therefore, if the news media lost their its truthfulness from the public, they it would fail to gain the high reputation and not be able to survive in the media industry.
By taking the monitoring system and the reputation of the news media into consideration, offering biased information to the public would not seem advantageous to the a news media. In this regard, I firmly hold that the news media is a reliable resource of unbiased information.
