Some people take it for granted that only the rich have to give away money
to the deprived people as charity. However, on the contrary to this opinion, I
firmly believe that it is desirable for all of us to show our generosity to
people in poverty as donating some of our incomes to a charitable
organization. The rationale behind this is that gathering an amount of money
for them makes a noticeable improvement on their lives, and we will be proud of
ourselves.
First of all, our meager pocket money can help poverty-stricken people to
escape from a hopeless situation. To explain, people in the third world countries may have difficulty in overcoming their
economic hardships of their own accord. In this regard, we’d better pool funds
from each of us as well as a great deal of money from the wealthy so as to help
the impoverished people. As an example, a several years ago, Korean Times, a
newspaper in Korea, published an article that millions of miserable folks in
Sudan, an African nation, were dying of hunger and diseases without any aid
from others in the world. When After
reading the news, some people of developed countries decided to hold
fundraising campaigns in order to help the Africans in Sudan. As a result, many
people, ranging from ordinary ones to millionaires, participated in the events,
which enabled the public of Sudan to buy medications and food they need. Thanks
to the collaborative effort from the donators, the people of Sudan were able to
get over their starvation and illnesses.
On top of that, regardless of an the
amount of money, subscribing to a relief group for the destitute makes givers
feel a sense of self-esteem. Such feelings
contribute to correcting one’s shortcomings so he or she can live a better life. Eventually, this heightens the pride of
him or her to a great extent. For instance, a recent study from the Korean
journal of psychology claims that about ninety percent of subjects who had
experiences of providing the poor with monetary assistance through a charity
were content with the act of the contribution. As the benefactors saw the
beneficiaries’ standards of living enhanced greatly, the people of the
former donators tended to introspect their
own lives deeply. Consequently, they could improve their various drawbacks,
such as laziness and insincerity, and
passionlessness in work or school, making producing
better performances on what they did, or in where they belonged in
society. Besides, it gave them a great sense of self-confidence in life.
To sum up, although many argue that only upper-class people should donate
funds to charities for people in need, I am certain that the general public
like us also have to contribute money for their better lives, despite a
small sum of it the amount being small. The
reason is that the quality of their lives can increase to some degree and the
common people may have strong dignity.
