▶ Your Answer :
The reading passage covers three major
points concerning the manned mission to other planet, Mars. The listening
passage, however, clearly states why these points are debatable. The first point made in the reading passage
is that dust is an obstacle to the mission. But, the speaker challenges this by
mentioning that sound technology can solve this problem by dislodging the dust
particles on machines. Hence, the dust many not be an effective reason to make
the manned mission unviable. Another point made by the author is that
distant travel is a reason of the problem. On the contrary, the lecturer
asserts that this is not true due to the fact that the lengthy trip is manageable.
He claims that training astronauts before they begin the journey can relieve
mental issues and a computer program which includes recorded video for
counselling those people during the trip would help. Thus, long distance trip
may not be a persuasive reason to support the entire topic.
Lastly, the writer claims that financing
the project is burdensome to send human to Mars and its value of outcome is
small to finance it. The professor further debunks this by saying that
distributing the cost among the nations would relieve the money problem. For
example, the International Space Station, ISS, is co-operated by several
countries and its costs are split. Also, through the mission, technology will
advance in the future. Therefore, financial problem is probably not a viable
reason. |
