▶ Your Answer :
The reading passage covers three major
points concerning the awkward phenomenon which is known as will o' the wisp.
The listening passage, however, clearly states why these points are debatable. (GOOD)
The first point made in the reading is that
the phenomenon can be attributed to a some kind of chemical reaction. However, the
speaker challenges this by mentioning the experiment that replicated the
chemical illumination. Its result revealed that the glow does not resemble the
will o' the wisp. It showed the cool green color, and a color of the wisp is yellow.
Hence, the chemical illumination may not be an effective reason to explain the
advent of will o' the wisp.
Another point made by the reading is that
firefly is the reason of the abnormal occurrences. On the contrary, the
lecturer asserts that this is not true due to the fact that fireflies are
scattered in the wetland, where the wisp comes out. While the fireflies blink
their lights, the wisps move synchronized and do not blink. Thus, flying
insects might not be a persuasive reason to support the entire topic.
Lastly, the reading passage claims that
white feathers of barn owls causes the eerie phenomenon because they
reflect lights. The professor further debunks this by giving following reasons.
First, the owls are not entirely white. Second, there are no light source to
flash owls. Hence, there are no means to sustain the lights. Therefore, the
birds are probably not a viable reason.
