There might be some people who believe that
comprehending the past is useless to being able to deal with obstacles
confronting us now and in the future. However, I personally disagree with the
above idea for the two subsequent reasons. First, investigating the past event
can prevent the future disaster. Second., we can learn from the history. To begin with, modern science and
technology have been developed by studying the past failures. To be specific,
through the process of trial and error, many scientist derive and correct
theories. Also, they sometimes find new facts by closely investigating the
existing clues. These clues and the accumulated information from trial and
error process advances technology. For example, in the past, people could not
predict the volcanic eruptions. Tthey could only know just before the volcano
bursts by noticing smokes or earthquakes, so that many people died. However,
with various and accumulated data, scientists studied the phenomena and found
out how to anticipate the explosion. Now, people living around the volcanic
mountains can evacuate with plenty of time. On top of that, history teaches wisdom and
warns us. This is because we can learn from the history and can prepare or
prevent undesired events. Many wars, international trades, and economic crisis
have occurred during the human history. We know the causes and the results of
these events as they are taught in schools. With these cumulated information,
we can use them as a reference. For example, after the global financial crisis,
which were was mainly caused by the unrestricted financial laws, politicians
enacted the security trading laws to prevent future crisis.
To sum up, studying and learning from the
past can prevent disasters and help us overcome the undesired events. In this
regard, I strongly believe that understanding the past is the most important
thing to prevent and deal with the obstacles facing us in the present and the
future.
