A prevalent of topic
undergoing serious debate is whether students should be rewarded based on their
efforts such as doing their best rather than based on the result such as
grades. Two different opinions exist in regard to this topic. I agree with the
idea that it is more important for student to receive reward based on their
effort such as doing their best than other for two reasons. Students are able
to learn life values and get less stress.
To begin with, it
can be beneficial to learn how to not give up. While many consider that rewarding
based on grades is an effective way considering a lot of factors, we cannot
deny the fact that students would have a great chance to learn life values like
patience regardless of good or bad results. Some day they can achieve their goal, based
on these experiences. For instance, my cousin became a successful fund manager
in a short period of time and she told me a secret about her success. When she
was a student in high school, her teacher gave students a small gift after exams
and he said that I was proud of you because you were not give up to solve many
questions. So, she had valuable experiences at that time. She trained herself
that I did not give up. After all, this value arouses her to actively
participate in her work and to do her best. This proves to us that patience is
vital that building a bright future.
On top of that, it
enables students to get less stress. When they only focus on their results, it
leads to unnecessarily competition with other peers and they are always in intension.
Also, if students fail to good grades, they would feel themselves inferior and
lose their confidence. However, without the results, student who concentrate on
their own efforts do not need to get a lot of stress above. In addition, a
well-known professor of Seoul National University published an editorial in
this field and his study supports my view. He mentioned that only focusing on
grades causes students to reduce their positive minds and confidence and then endorphins
and hormones that release from human brain do not contribute to refresh their
mind. He concluded by his research that students try to their own study or
work.
In conclusion, I believe
that rewarding based on their effort is the best decision for two reasons. This
is because students are able to learn life values like patience and get less
stress.
