Some people think that the news media is too biased to believe. However, I think the news media is objective enough to rely on because lots of people evaluate it and due to the hierarchy of the inner system. First, people confirm various news media before they decide which one to subscribe. They prefer information without prejudice than others. In this cut-throat competitive society, the media companies have to continuously strive. One's strength can be clouded by other's ability, so in order to stand out, all companies need to show their one's own strength. This gives them a lot of burden to them resulting in making more prudent and unbiased materials. For example, a poll was conducted by the Seoul National University with 200 students as respondents. The purpose of the poll was to determine the consensus view of the news media. The majority of respondents ranked objectiveness over other factors as a reliable media. An overwhelming 65% of people responded that they choose the news media after valuing the reliability. This shows that the companies cannot help making unbiased materials to be accepted by many. Second, there is a hierarchy system that supervise the reliability in a company itself. Employees have to include information without any prejudices and views because their boss will cut it out and make them try to write in a different way. For example, my uncle is in a newspaper company and one day he wrote a article about politics in those days. He was certain that it was perfect so he submitted it to the boss. However, the boss told him to eradicate all of the views including uncle's personal opinion. As a result, he had to rewrite it all from the first stage. This shows how sensitive the systems are in terms of the objectiveness. To sum up, considering the outer system of people's valuing and the inner system of the company, I strongly believe that news media has become unbiased these days. |
