Topic: University should not require students to attend classes.
University graduation has been an indispensable requirement for people who apply for jobs. It not only certificates your ability in major but it also proves your patience and fidelity during the college life. Hence, students should pay as much attention as they can on their major in their university in order to satisfy the needs of the society and firm their station in life. Therefore, I disagree with the statement that university students should not be required to attend classes.
To start with, university students should be asked to be present at classes since it was their decision to take the particular class. It’s obvious that some of the classes are useless and banal, but students have to take responsibility on their determinations. To elaborate, every student has a chance to applicant for the popular subjects, but as it’s well known, it’s impossible for every single student to take the class. Therefore, he or she has to decide whether to take another class or wait for the dropouts. Anyway, since certain amounts of units are required to finish the course, sstudents have to be responsible for their final conclusion and compromise with the reality.
Secondly, university tuition is often high-priced. Unlike the States, most Korean students get financial help from their parents, which means that they spend their parents money to pay for the tuition. Therefore, I think I would feel sorry for my parents if I loaf my time away. To give a personal example, I work hard on every class that I paid for, in order to improve my ability and save my parents money. Moreover, in my opinion, those university students who do not attend classes are too selfish. They clearly recognize the fact that they need to study hard, but they still hesitate to do so due to their laziness.
Finally, not attending a class is an act of showing disrespect to the professors. It’s said that teachers always hold a bottle of water before they share it to their students, which means that all the teachers are better than the students in their ways. Every professors have distinctive style of teaching, and students should respect the style and cooperate with them in the class. To be specific, professors are experts in their own field, and their duty is to give the knoledge to the students in class, but imagine when the professors came into the classroom, finding empty seats for absent students. The professor must have prepared the materials to give specific information. There is no doubt that it will diminish their passion to teach. Furthermore, not showing on class also affects other students.
To sum up, even though college students are all grown ups and they have their right to be absent from class, I disagree with the statement that university shouldn’t require students to attend class since students should take responsibilities on themselves as well as their parents, and they must show respect to their professors and classmates.
