▶ Your Answer :
Financial rewards could be a high motivation to start and maintain the business. By observing many entrepreneurs, such as Steve jobs, however, I believe that businesspeople do not only chase their financial achievements. Instead of money, they are motivated by the sense of accomplishment and the desire for contributing the society.
To start with, the sense of achievements can lead businesspeople to enter and run their business. Most of the entrepreneurs feel happy by setting up high levels of the goals, such as being a leader in his or her field, and having many efforts to achieve them. According to a research of psychology, furthermore, because the sense of accomplishment is the highest level of being happy, they are motivated by accomplishing their goals. It might be the reason that many businesspeople do not stay in their own fields, which make stable profits, but challenge new markets. For example, Kun-hee Lee, who has been the owner of the best company Samsung for a few decades, tried to expand the range of business to other fields which are not familiar with him. He might want to conquer not only his own fields but also new markets. It implies that businesspeople are inspired by feeling the sense of accomplishment.
Secondly, entrepreneurs would like to contribute to make a better society with their businesses. People usually feel worth helping improve the society and businesspeople can lead the society to improve the levels of members’ living standards. For example, Steve Jobs, who established Apple a few decades ago and was one of the wealthiest businesspeople in the world, quitted his university and started his business not due to the money but due to his goal to make a better society with the progress of technologies. Financial rewards are followers after reaching his goal. This implies that businesspeople pursue contributing the community rather than financial aspects.
All in all, financial aspects cannot be underestimated for the reason to start and operate companies. However, many businesspeople consider not only money but also more valuable motivations: the sense of accomplishment and contribution to our community. Thus, I do not agree with the statement that money is only motivation for businesspeople.
