The reading passage contends that T.rex would have been scavenger. On the other hand the lecturer brings up several points that contradict this argument.
First the speaker argues that even though T.rex had short limb, it they had an incredibly large and powerful jaw with serrated teeth(,) so that one bite could break most anything almost everything into half. Therefore they could prey on large animals just like what crocodiles do nowadays crocodile. This casts doubt on the reading which states that since they had short limb, it was impossible for them to prey on large animal like lions and tigers.
Second, according to the lecturer, although they couldn't run in fast, their main prey was slower than them. Therefore, they didn't need to run in fast. Moreover, even though some species which were was moving slow had defense mechanism, it was inadequate to compete with sharp and long teeth of T.rex. This refutes the reading passage's assertion that T.rex could only move slowly due to has huge legs would have resulted in moving slowly so that it was merely scavenger. The final point made by the lecturer is that T.rex didn't have a great sense of smell. This is because having a great sense of smell was only needed for animals which have to sense prey, stayed/located far from them far located from them. This counters the writer's clam that T.rex had acute sense of smell which is the evidence of scavenger. (reading 이 이러한 주장을 한 이유는 무엇인가요?)
