The reading passage contends that internet is giving an easy access to information, so on-line course is being more and more valuable. On the other hand, the lecturer brings up several points that contradict this argument.
First of all, the speaker argues that not limiting maximum absences is making students to consider the course not serious. Students prone to drop or defer the course so easily when they have a little difficulty keeping up the course. This casts doubt on the reading passage which states students are benefited to manage their time flexibly by taking on-line couse.
Also, according to the lecturer, there is no way to make an objective evaluation. This happens because the course is offered to far-reaching distances of students. Since there is no way to prevent them from cheating, standard tests cannot exist. In this sense, students are not able to make a progress as well. This refutes the reading passage's assertion that students are proftable to take a course without limit of distances.
Final point made by the lecturer is that interaction not only between professor and student, but also student and student is hard to maintain. There are so many students who ask similar questions to one professor, and it is really painful for the professor to reply all the questions. Also, it takes long time for professor to answer complicated question and it makes students frustrated. Moreover, it is not always possible for the professor to reply for the question. This counters the writer's claim that on-line course make possible for professors to take care of each student better. |
